Increasing number of cars on roads- should govt increase toll taxes

Post by amitsurani101 »

Nowadays number of cars on roads are increasing incrementally. Should government increase the toll tax on the busy roads ? Give your opinion

Higher levels of air pollution and green house gases ask for the control on number of private vehicles used where suggestive measure of increasing toll tax may not be sufficient and other simultaneous measures are required too.

When nations are progressing economically, even citizens are becoming capable to avail opulence and in such scenario owing a car is obvious. Today, car has become a necessity rather then just remaining a status symbol. People buy cars for safety as the urbanised extended city roads have become unsafe for smaller vehicles. Secondly owing a car has become easy with the financial support from banks making it affordable for everyone, which results in more number of cars.

We are already facing the threat from global warming due to increasing levels CO and CO2 released from exhaust fumes of vehicles, the need for addressing that has become priority. The mentioned measure of increasing toll tax may not be sufficient as for the people who can afford costly vehicles can easily spend the increased toll tax and for them it would be preferred option as with higher tax they can expect better facilities for smoother journey.

This clearly indicates that only increasing toll tax would not impact on the number of cars hence parallel corrective measures are also expected. Here government can increase the tax on luxurious vehicles and along with that they can put constraint on ownership of cars per family. Secondly they can encourage people for using public transport by providing better vehicles, improved frequency and good roads which can allow people to use public transport for longer distances within city. This can impact on the number of cars owned and used.

To agglomerate, we can conclude that collective measures from the effective government and supportive individuals can help to combat the situation

I would rate 5-6 out of 10. Essay has some points, but not developed ineffectively. For example: the third paragraph talks about, necessity of car, safety, financial support from banks etc... these are different ideas and does not directly answer the question. Pick one idea and develop it example to support your argument.
