Topic of money and happiness

Post by yhjsaber »

Many people think that money brings happiness, but others think that having too much money is a problem. Discuss both views and give your own opinion.

People hold different views as to whether having an abundance of money leads to happiness or causes problems. Although securing a satisfactory salary is an important factor contributing to happiness, I would argue that achieving a happy life requires not only money, but also families and friends with whom a person can establish healthy relationships and share their feelings.

Admittedly, money is an instrument which allows individuals to pursue their desired lifestyles. For example, those who are interested in experiencing different cultures and keen in broadening their view of life could always afford a trip to different countries, while those who prefer a stable life could choose to improve their living standards tremendously if they were able to command considerable amount of money. Therefore, it is possible for people to have a sense of fulfilment, which eventually leads to happiness, through utilizing money to satisfy their material needs.

Despite the above view, I believe that satisfaction and happiness deriving from adequate financial capacity is temporary in nature. It is often the case that happiness obtained from fulfilling material needs fades away quickly as people strive to acquire more. As a result, people may become increasingly greedy and money acts as a catalyst in this respect. On the other hand, spending quality time with family and friend can print long lasting feelings of being loved and happiness in our memories. This is why people often cherish their childhood memories instead of enjoying the success and wealth they acquire from their careers.

In conclusion, it seems to me that achieving perpetuate happiness is based on having loved ones and being able to share your feelings with them. Money, on the other hand, only brings short period of happiness and it may encourage people to become obsessed with material-driven happiness.
