(Re posting)Interpersonal Skills-please assess

Post by Yasser.Azab »

Nowadays businesses face problems with new employees who just finished their education and lack some interpersonal skills such as the ability to work in a team. What do you think is the main cause of the problem? How can it be resolved?

Qualifications represent the main factor for employment. Being full of knowledge but lacking interpersonal skills makes you a defective candidate in the eye of the employer. In this essay we will discuss the reasons behind the increase of this phenomenon and how to put an end to it.

Regarding the reasons, it is found that the academic study throughout the university doesn't give a great attention to these skills. For example, when you have a deep look on the assignments that the students are required to complete, you will find that each student is required to prepare a specific research on a certain topic on his own, without the need for collaboration with his colleagues. The result will be the lack of the ability to work in a team. Moreover, parents growing up their children focus only on the scientific level of their offspring with no care for other important aspects. Take communication skills as an example. Parents don't give much attention for this skill although it is the basis for dealing with people.

Solving this issue will be by putting these skills into consideration in the studying curricula of the students. For instance, different activities should be added to enhance the teamwork ability. In addition, changing the mindset of the parents will have a great role in limiting this problem. Parents should give a great attention on how their children think, adapt to changes or even deal with different kinds of people. This can be achieved through enrolling their children to educational centers specialized in instilling these skills in their early ages.
In conclusion, it is obvious that universities and parents represent the base upon which the problem and solution can be based on. It is recommended that governments interfere to help in solving this issue

Qualifications represent the main factor for employment. Being full of knowledge but lacking interpersonal skills makes you a defective candidate in the eyes of the employer. This essay will discuss the reasons behind the increase of this phenomenon and some possible solutions.

Regarding the reasons, it is found that academic study doesn't attribute much value to 'soft' skills, such as teamwork. For example, when you look at the assignments that the students are required to complete, you will find that each student is required to prepare specific research on a certain topic on his own, without the need for collaboration with his colleagues. The result is the lack of ability to work in a team. Moreover, parents raising their children focus only on the academic level of their offspring with no care for other important aspects. Take communication skills as an example. Parents don't pay much attention to this skill although it is the basis for dealing with people.

Solving this issue will be by putting these skills into consideration in the studying curricula of the students.(<--Reword to: "One possible solution is to include softer skills in university courses.") For instance, different activities should be added to enhance the ability to work in a team. In addition, changing the mindset of parents will have a great role in limiting this problem. Parents should pay attention to how their children think, adapt to changes or even deal with different kinds of people. This can be achieved through enrolling their children in educational centers specialized in instilling these skills in their early ages.

In conclusion, it is obvious that universities and parents represent the base upon which the problem and solution can be found. It is recommended that governments intervene to help in solving this issue.
Note: 'interfere' has negative connotations.
