My Task2-taking a year off

Post by jennylfm »

Many students take one year off between finishing high school and going to university.

Do you think its advantage outweigh its disadvantages?

Currently, taking a year off for young students between completing high school and heading to college is increasingly prevalent. Although it may stimulate students to opt out of college, in my opinion, there are more benefits in terms of broadening their horizon as well as enhancing their practical skills.

To begin with, a year off between high school and college as to work or travel, it offers students a good chance to explore the world and experience different cultures and traditions, especially if they go to other countries. Through their own exploration, they can not only acquire the first-hand experiences, but also enlarge their knowledge.

Additionally, It can enhance their life skills. For instance, via participating in a variety of volunteer works as teaching and farming, they can not only apply their knowledge into practice, more importantly gain many fundamental skills as how to communicate and collaborate with others, which are beneficial to boost their future career prospect. Meanwhile, they will find that it is not easy to earn money, and hope that it cultivates them to spend money on practical things.

However, there are also some negative outcomes. Potentially, taking one year off can encourage young students to opt out of university and veer away from formal education. It is undeniable that further education plays an significant role in people’s life and can open the door to a good job opportunity. Giving up college education may have profound negative impact on their later life. It can be one barrier for them to seek out a decent job, consequently live a stable life. Moreover, there are many unpredictable risks during traveling or work such as language barriers or cultural differences, without enough preparation may pose a serious risk at their safety and security, sometimes even threaten their life.

In conclusion, after analysing the above ideas, it is believed that the merits of taking one year off between high school and college outweigh its drawbacks, especially for enlarging their knowledge and enhancing their skills.
