IELTS Taks 2 Question
People prefer to use their own transport nowadays. What could society do to encourage people to use public transport.
In last couple of decades use of private transportation has been increased dramatically. People use their own personal vehicles for transportation. It is argued that what should society do to support public transport as it has many benefits to both public and nation.
There are many ways that society can encourage people to use public transport. Firstly, Non-governmental organizations should initiate awareness programs that highlight benefits of using public transport. For instance, they may conduct seminars, as my local council did in last summer, in which they can included numerous benefits of public transport including national exchequer. They can also claim that it is healthier to use public transport as you have to walk to bus station which most of people don't do due to busy schedule. Secondly, less cars use less fuel and for oil importing countries it is important to use fossil fuel efficiently. It is not only better for environment but it also cut down the import bill. lastly, society should encourage people not to use private cars as these cars contributes to traffic jams in downtown area of almost every metropolitan city. Last but not least community services should educate people that public transport is economical comparing to private transport.
Furthermore, there are other step too that encourage people to use public transportation. Society should take up a case with government to improve the public transport infrastructure and if this project is implemented it is for sure that people will use it. Take metro bus service of Lahore as an example, initially this project is critic by many but when it started its operation it became matchless service as lot of people are using it. This example clearly shows that metro bus service provides better transport service to general public on economical rates that is why it attracts to many. therefore, society can play a vital role in developing government policies that encourage people to use mass transportation service.
In conclusion, there are many steps, through awareness and policy making, for society to promote the use of public transport. This will ultimately benefit individuals, environment, societies and nations.
