The more power a person has, the more responsibility they bear. To what extend do you agree or disagree with this statement?
Power is an interest of many people. It is expected that when a person is given more power, his sense of responsibility would increase. In my opinion, however, it could cause negative effect on the society. This will be proven by the increase of the chances in corruption and unnecessary human loss as a result of more power for one person.
It is believed that absolute power could generate corruption. This is because it is easier for the person to obtain his own interest if he wants to. Take the Chinese governors as an example, some of them would ask for benefit to take care of their people. People would try to bribe these governors to achieve their purposes that generally is impossible via legal regulations. This is also why there are so many stunning figures used for bribing government people on the news. Therefore, it can be concluded that more powerful people are more likely to be corrupted.
In addition to this, power sometimes is also used as a tool for personal ambition that might lead to the loss of many others. Mao, the founder of the People’s Republic of China, directed a culture revolution during the 1960s in China. Because of his own drive to have full control of the country, many families had broken down and deaths had occurred all over the country. Indeed, when authority is dominated by one person or a few, a mis-conduct can produce disaster for many.
In summary, a person with more power can potentially be less responsible. This is proven by the raising occasions of corruptions and tragedy. I would recommend a group of people share power under supervision. Therefore, it can be used with more caution to produce more positive results.
